The Postal Service will release Bridges stamps for business mailers on Aug. 24.

Each of these Presorted First-Class Mail stamps features one of four bridges:

• Arrigoni Bridge, a steel span with distinctive arches connecting the Connecticut towns of Middletown and Portland, named for the politician who championed it;

• Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, a 3,000-foot-long walkway connecting Omaha, NE, and Council Bluffs, IA, and named for the former Nebraska governor;

• Skydance Bridge, a 380-foot-long walkway in Oklahoma City designed to look like the state bird — the scissor-tailed flycatcher; and

• Iowa-Illinois Memorial Bridge, a Public Works Administration project completed in 1935 and dedicated to area soldiers of World War I.

No national dedication ceremony will be held.

Ethel Kessler, an art director for USPS, used existing photographs to design the stamps.

The Bridges stamps will be sold in self-adhesive coils of 3,000 and 10,000. They will require a special permit and a minimum quantity of 500 letters.
