LEFLORE COUNTY MAN SENTENCED FOR KNIFE ATTACK ON POSTAL CARRIER

Greenville, Mississippi – Chief U.S. District Court Judge Debra M. Brown sentenced Cordero Moore, aged 36, of Greenwood, Mississippi to serve a 70-month jail sentence for an August 2024 knife attack on a U.S. Postal Carrier as the Carrier delivered mail in Greenwood. Judge Brown also sentenced Moore to post-incarceration court supervision for 3 years.

On August 5, 2024, Moore chased down the Postal Carrier while waving a knife and forced the Carrier to enter a local business for her safety. Moore was later arrested in possession of two knives.

“This defendant made a violent, cowardly attack on a female postal employee who was just hard at work performing her duties,” said U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner.  “It is ludicrous that this dedicated letter carrier should have to fear for her life while simply doing her job, and we appreciate the collaboration of our law enforcement partners in holding the line against such conduct.”

“The safety and security of Postal Service employees is core to the mission of the Postal Inspection Service,” said Shameka Jackson, Acting Inspector-in-Charge of the Houston Division. “Today’s sentencing of Cordero Moore shows that the Judge has also taken the threat of physical violence against our Letter Carrier seriously. We extend our appreciation to the Greenwood Police Department that assisted with this investigation.”

This case was investigated by the Greenwood, Mississippi Police Department and U.S. Postal Inspector Charlie Tutor. The case was prosecuted by AUSA Paul Roberts.
