ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (KAKE) – Police say a Wichita man who was arrested last week at a beef processing plant in Arkansas City had a federal warrant for assaulting a postal worker.

The Arkansas City Police Department says on Tuesday, May 14 officers responded to the report of a suspicious individual at Creekstone Farms. Upon arrival, officers were approached by employees who indicated that a male suspect appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Esphesus Kago of Wichita, was exhibiting unusual behavior. During the investigation, officers discovered that Kago was in possession of illegal substances. When officers attempted to take him into custody, he resisted arrest. Despite this resistance, officers successfully apprehended Kago and transported him to the Cowley County Jail.

The APD says further investigation revealed that Kago had an active warrant issued by the United States Attorney General’s Office for aggravated assault on a postal worker.

Kago remains in custody on charges of obstructing a law enforcement officer, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and the federal warrant. No bond has been set at this time.
