WATERTOWN, Mass. — A Watertown letter carrier is getting praise Thursday night for jumping into action as soon as she saw a house fire on her afternoon route.
“I heard really loud knocks on my door I came down,” said neighbor, Mayra Guerra.
The urgent knocking that neighbors on Maple Street heard alerted them to a massive fire that was spreading fast, and it wasn’t long before flames were shooting through the roof of a multi-family home.
“I’m super thankful someone was able to let us know the fire was right next to our fence if our fence caught on fire it would’ve been seconds before our house caught on fire a well,” said Guerra.
Guerra says her letter carrier is the one who deserves the praise, for pounding on the doors of her neighbors, whose homes were at risk of catching fire, after she first made sure the people who were in the burning home got out safely.
