The Postal Service dedicated its Life Magnified stamps on Aug. 10 at the Great American Stamp Show in Cleveland.

This collection of 20 images was created using microscopes and highly specialized photographic techniques to capture details of life undetectable by the human eye.

“Usually, we shrink images to fit on a postage stamp. In this case, we have enlarged the images to postage stamp size — that doesn’t happen often,” said Luke Grossmann, the Postal Service’s finance and strategy senior vice president, who helped dedicate the stamps.

Other participants included Igor Siwanowicz and Tagide deCarvalho, who photographed some of the images.

Their research subjects included such minutia as a diving beetle’s foot, a snail’s tongue, moss leaves and mold spores.

The Forever stamps are available at Post Offices and usps.com.
