USPS audit in metro Phoenix finds mail delays, wrong packages delivered

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Thousands of people across the Valley haven’t been getting their mail on time, and what inspectors found may explain why so many customers are so frustrated with the United States Postal Service.

A recent audit of metro Phoenix postal centers has uncovered a wide range of problems that have impacted service and delivery.

“I will say I moved to this home about two months ago and it took about two months to get a new mail box key, so i haven’t even received mail yet,” said Patrick Crowley of Phoenix, who has been waiting a long time for his mail. “I might be epitome of problem.”

The Office of the Inspector General recently audited seven postal centers in Phoenix, Mesa, Goodyear, and Scottsdale.

The audit uncovered several deficiencies at every location, including delayed mail, scanning mistakes, poor recordkeeping, and internal tracking problems.
