DETROIT – Today, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) sent a letter to USPS Inspector General Tammy Hull to request that her office initiate an investigation into the process that led to the changes outlined in Trump-appointed U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s “10-year plan” for the United States Postal Service and the impact of these changes on Michigan’s 12th District and across the country.
“The USPS has a constitutional responsibility to provide a service to the public. Postmaster General DeJoy’s 10-year plan appears to put the USPS on a fast-track towards privatization, job cuts, negatively impacted service operations, and a culture of general dysfunction at one of our country’s bedrock institutions. I request you initiate an investigation into Mr. DeJoy’s plan,” Congresswoman Tlaib wrote.
Congresswoman Tlaib has been in close contact with USPS workers, their union representation, and management in Southeast Michigan who are highly concerned that Trump-appointed USPS Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s 10-year plan poses a serious risk to the fundamental capabilities of the USPS. Through her oversight work it has become clear that organizational changes implemented by Postmaster General DeJoy’s plan are one of the root causes of ongoing mail service issues and organizational dysfunction plaguing the USPS.
