The Postal Service will release its John Lewis stamp July 21.
Lewis (1940-2020) was a key figure in some of the most pivotal moments of the Civil Rights Movement.
For more than three decades, Lewis represented Georgia in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he was hailed as the “Conscience of the Congress.”
He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, by President Barack Obama.
Derry Noyes, an art director for USPS, designed the Forever stamp with a photograph taken by Marco Grob for Time magazine.
The John Lewis stamp will be available in panes of 15 at Post Offices and usps.com.
