Stolen Menards checks bring ex-postal worker hefty tab

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The theft of Menards rebate checks has a former Michigan postal employee facing a $5,100 tab to go along with federal probation.

Linda K. Stilwell, who worked at the post office in Niles, had been facing up to 20 years in prison for multiple counts of mail fraud.

She pleaded guilty in April to delay and destruction of the mail, a five-year felony, and the mail fraud counts were dismissed.

U.S. District Court Judge Paul Maloney on Friday placed her on probation for two years and ordered that she pay $5,134 in restitution.

Stilwell was working as a postal carrier out of the Niles Post Office when the offenses occurred between 2020 and 2023, court records show.
