PINEVILLE – For over 33 years, Clifford Lucas delivered a lot of mail in this community so he knows a lot of people. He turned 100 on Sept. 12 but on Saturday, his family and many others turned out to deliver birthday wishes to him at Sacred Heart of Jesus.
A steady stream of people lined up to shake his hand, hug him and take photos. He was very appreciative of the recognition he was receiving. District 1 Councilwoman Mary Galloway presented Lucas with a proclamation from Mayor Rich Dupree proclaiming Sept. 12 Clifford Lucas Day.
“It means an awful lot,” said Lucas who is a big Notre Dame football fan. “It’s good to know you still have people who care for you.”
He’s always been nice to people so they’ve always been nice to him since he’s gotten older, he said.
