KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Republican Rep. Fred Upton met with local leaders Monday to send a message to Washington D.C.
He urged the U.S. Postal Service to suspend implementation of the “sorting and delivery center” initiative. The plan would consolidate mail carriers into one facility, according to Upton.
Hundreds of carriers in Kalamazoo, Allegan, Van Buren, and other surrounding counties would be required to travel to one location and deliver the mail, Upton said.
The plan would impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of Michiganders who rely on their local postal office to carry out correspondence in a timely manner, according to local leaders.
