Postal service trucking contractor to lay off 122 and shutter Denver, Portland facilities

A logistics company that contracts with the U.S. Postal Service will lay off 122 workers and close facilities in Colorado and Oregon, according to recently filed documents.

Denver Layoffs

Trucking and mail handling service provider Matheson Flight Extenders filed notice of planned mass layoffs with the Colorado Department of Labor & Employment on December 1, 2023.

The company said that they will lay off 60 workers as of January 31, 2024. Most of the workers who will be laid off are materials handlers. The layoffs are expected to be permanent.

The company also plans to shutter their Denver facility permanently.

Oregon Layoffs

The company also announced they will lay off 62 workers and shutter a site in Portland, Oregon, OregonLive reports.

Those workers will also be laid off January 31.

In August 2023, Matheson announced the layoffs of about 1000 workers in Massachusetts, Georgia and Maryland. In November 2023, the company announced the closure of two California facilities, resulting in 450 layoffs.
