Postal Service truck goes up in flames in South Augusta neighborhood

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) – Scorched asphalt, a melted garbage can, and a few charred pieces of mail are all that remain after several postal service customers in south Augusta watched as their mail, and the mail truck, burned Monday afternoon.

Goshen Plantation resident Sandra Andrews told FOX54 “it was really amazing.”

Andrews, who witnessed the incident and shot video using her phone, said she doesn’t know what might have started the fire. She speculates that perhaps the vehicle overheated.

Another neighbor thinks she saw the mail truck stalled out on a hill just before the blaze ignited.
Andrews recounts relief she felt, having received her mail during the regular route.

“I said, ‘Wow! Our mailman’s truck is on fire and ours is the last box he went to!'”

The neighbors who shared comments about the situation said they are happy the mail carrier seemed to be fine. USPS says if you believe you’re missing any mail, including packages, you should contact the sender, who can initiate a claim.
