Washington, DC – The Package Coalition issued a statement from Chairman John McHugh following the fiscal year 2022 financial report from the U.S. Postal Service:

“At a point when American consumers are facing record inflation and uncertain economic headwinds, it is gratifying to know that they can continue to rely on the Postal Service’s package delivery service.  This financial report demonstrates that the Postal Service’s package business remains both vital to the nation and profitable. The Postal Service earned $33.1 billion in revenues from package services, netting $12.5 billion in profit for the institution in FY22.  In addition to critical operational and financial improvements, last year’s Postal Service Reform Act guaranteed that mail and packages are delivered together, 6 days a week. Profits from the package delivery business help support the nationwide, integrated postal delivery network that all Americans rely upon.

“Even with historic winter weather and peak delivery season, the average time to deliver mail and packages was 2.5 days during the holidays. Package volumes are understandably no longer at pandemic highs, but American small businesses, rural communities, seniors and families tightening their belts in the coming months will continue to turn to the Postal Service for affordable and reliable package delivery.”
