ATLANTA — Georgia U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff says the US Postal Service is still not delivering mail on time and now it’s affecting veterans’ benefits.
Ossoff confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that he has made an inquiry to the VA because so many veterans are calling his office.
Since the spring, the mail situation at the sorting facility in Palmetto has been better, delivering mail at around 50% on time. That number is still unacceptable to folks using USPS and to Ossoff as well.
“I think there’s a real accountability problem and that’s why last year, I introduced legislation to make the position of Postmaster General a Senate-confirmedcausing position,” Ossoff said.
Ossoff said he would like the federal postmaster to also have term limits so that no one will ever be able to handle Georgia’s mail epidemic with a lack of urgency.
