OMAHA, Neb. — A Nebraska Panhandle man faces a three-count federal indictment related to alleged embezzlement, according an unsealed document returned by a grand jury on Thursday.
According to U.S. Attorney Susan T. Lehr, 42-year-old Jacob Wilkins, of Mitchell, faces the federal charges in relation incidents dating as far back as 2016.
The first count charges Wilkins with embezzlement and theft of labor union assets ranging from July 25, 2016 to August 12, 2021. He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the charge.
The Scotts Bluff County man also faces two counts of falsification, concealment, or destruction of financial records required to be kept by labor union. He faces up to a year in prison and a $10,000 fine for each of those charges.
According to court documents, Wilkins is accused of embezzling almost $24,000 from the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 1836, which represents postal workers in the Panhandle.
