Mail halted in Wichita neighborhood after 2 men attack postal carrier

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – Mail delivery in a Wichita neighborhood has been suspended after two people attacked a postal carrier who used pepper spray to stop a pair of aggressive dogs that were chasing him.

The incident happened shortly before 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 21 in the 800 block of South Millwood, which is just south of Kellogg west of Seneca. Postal Inspector Paul Shade said the carrier was being chased by two large dogs and used pepper spray to defend himself. He then ran back to his vehicle.

“He was then pursued multiple blocks away by the residents of the home, who physically assaulted him, causing significant injuries to his face,” Shade said in a release.

The 48-year-old victim told police he was assaulted by two unknown male suspects.

In response, the Postal Service has temporarily suspended delivery to the area until it it determined the area is safe to deliver. The suspension impacts 41 addresses. Their mail will be available for pickup at the local post office.
