Judge sentences Pa. ex-rural mail carrier for dumping mail

John Rodney Blackman, 26,, who had pleaded guilty Sept. 6 to desertion of mails, was placed on one year’s probation and fined $200 in accordance with the plea agreement.

He had admitted dumping more than 1,500 pieces of mail, approximately half of which were political circulars and flyers, between September 2020 and this past March.
The 785 circulars and flyers along with 490 pieces of standard mail and 58 magazines were among what was dumped in eight plastic trash bags in a wooded in Ridgebury Twp.

Another 155 pieces of first-class mail for his route were concealed behind his work area at the Sayre Post Office and 63 pieces of presorted standard mail for his route were found in a trash can at his mother’s residence in the borough.

Prior to being sentenced Blackman apologized and told the judge he was trying to better himself by working toward an associate’s degree.
