EL PASO, Texas — An El Paso man was arrested after allegedly threatening a postal worker with a knife and a SWAT standoff.

While delivering mail on June 12, 2023, in the 2800 block of Castle Hill, the postal worker reported a man approached him while screaming and brandishing a knife.

The postal worker sought refuge inside his work vehicle and locked the doors, preventing any physical harm.

The alleged suspect, identified by police as Edgar Efren Avila, eventually returned to his vehicle and fled the scene.

Following the incident, law enforcement located Avila at the 12100 block of Royal Woods. Despite initial resistance to come out of his residence, a collaborative effort involving Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Crisis Management Team, Crisis Intervention Team, and the Gang Unit successfully apprehended Avila.

A warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was issued by Judge Priddy with a bond set at $75,000. Edgar Efren Avila was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
