A community is honoring the life of a Chattanooga postal worker who was shot and killed over the weekend.

Hearts were heavy at the Shallowford post office as friends and family gathered to remember former USPS worker Cody Ransom.

We spoke to several loved ones at a vigil and they all say Ransom was a good man.

The release says “after a verbal exchange,” Simmons shot Ransom several times and fled the scene.

He then drove into a business on Highway 153 and crashed. Police found him dead on the scene and confirmed he shot himself.

The Chattanooga Postal Workers Union says Ransom was training at the Shallowford Road Post Office to be a supervisor.

They released a statement on his passing:

“Cody was an all around good person. We were all pushing for him to be a supervisor and we are all saddened that his life was cut short before that could happen. Out of the many years that he and I have worked together, I can’t remember him saying anything against anyone. What happened to Cody was undeserving and we can only imagine what his family is going through. Please pray for Cody’s family and his Postal brothers and sisters.”
