The Postal Service will release its Women’s Soccer stamp on Feb. 16.
The Forever stamp, which arrives during National Girls and Women in Sports Month, recognizes the many advances and achievements of women’s soccer in the United States.
The enactment of Title IX in 1972 provided the guideposts, but it was the actions of female athletes that helped clear the path for the sport we know today.
From youth leagues to the elite world champion U.S. Women’s National Team, millions of girls and women throughout the country participate in the fast-paced, competitive sport.
The stamp artwork depicts a female soccer player in action, striking a ball with a side volley.
Simplified shapes and bold colors to convey the high energy and fast motion of the sport. The somewhat grainy rendering is meant to lend a timeless quality to the design, evoking not just a single all-star athlete or era but the entire legacy of women’s soccer.
Antonio Alcalá, an art director for USPS, designed the stamp, using an original illustration by Noah MacMillan (1988-2022).
