USPS explains to the California Air Resources Board why proposed regulations in CA will interfere with mail delivery, conflict with federal laws and prevent the USPS from functioning “in a fiscally responsible manner.”
The USPS says that installing charging stations at post offices (where the public might be able to use them) will take much longer than new CA regulations allow, and it prefers to devote its “limited resources” to putting chargers at the “new, improved” Sort & Delivery Centers.
So USPS will drag its feet putting charging stations at 23,000 leased POs (most of them small & rural) or the 8,000 POs it owns (many of them “advanced in age”) and instead put them at S&DCs, even tho this new delivery network adds hundreds of millions of miles to carrier routes.
