USPS Heat Illness Prevention Program requirements to be released

The Postal Service is preparing to launch this year’s Heat Illness Prevention Program to help employees recognize, prevent and respond to heat-related illnesses while working in hot weather.

The program includes updated training and guidance focusing on proper hydration, early symptom recognition and the importance of preventative measures.

Mandatory Heat Illness Prevention Program training will be available in the Learning Management System through MyHR.

Additional program details, resources and reminders can be found on the Heat Illness Prevention page on the MyHR website and will be shared in a July edition of Postal Bulletin.

The Truth

Management are the ones that need training. In multiple cases when carriers notified them that they were in distress, they were told to keep moving and not to stop. This resulted in several deaths. One supervisor went so far as to send out a don’t stop message on the scanner. These are examples of what carriers experience on a daily basis in the summer. What does the NALC do? Essentially nothing, not even lobbying for these people’s termination. Fortunately, it looks like a new president will get a shot at this.
