Rep. Brad Finstad, Madden Family push to rename Austin post office in honor of NFL legend

AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) – Minnesota Congressman Brad Finstad is pushing for a hometown tribute for a sports legend.

Rep. Finstad introduced a bill to rename the Austin Post Office off 1st Avenue SE as the ‘John Madden Memorial Post Office’.

Madden was born in Austin in 1936.

“It is an honor to introduce legislation that memorializes the football legend, John Madden, in his birthplace of Austin, Minnesota,” said Rep. Finstad. “Madden had a one-of-a-kind career and Minnesota’s First District is lucky to be a part of it. I look forward to keeping his legacy alive for years to come.”

The Madden Family is also backing the effort, calling it a meaningful way to remember him in his birthplace.

He passed away in December 2021 at the age of 85.
