UPS recently ended a contract with the United States Postal Service and delivery changes are coming to some post office box users as a result.
Now, UPS SurePost Packages will be delivered exclusively by UPS drivers and not the U.S. Postal Service as they have in the past, according to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which represents UPS delivery drivers.
UPS SurePost “is an economy service for your less urgent, lower value shipments,” according to UPS.
The U.S. Postal Service is the only carrier permitted to deliver to P.O boxes, Army Posts and Navy fleets.
With the termination of this contract, these customers will have to ship their packages directly to a U.S. location or physical address.
In other words, the contract’s end means that UPS will no longer deliver packages to post offices for individuals with P.O boxes and UPS requires a physical address for delivery.
For individuals who do not have a valid street address, UPS told NBC 5 their best option is to use a UPS store mailbox.
