US Post Office in Meriden reopens after ‘suspicious item’ found outside, officials say

MERIDEN, CT— A local U.S. Post Office has reopened after a suspicious item was found outside Tuesday, officials said.

Local police were contacted after a “suspicious item” was found outside the Meriden Post Office, according to David M. Reardon, assistant inspector in charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Boston Division.

“Postal inspectors and local law enforcement responded and determined the item was non-hazardous,” Reardon said.

Meriden police and a spokesperson for the United States Postal Service both directed questions to USPIS.

The office on Center Street reopened Tuesday afternoon, according to Amy Gibbs, a USPS spokesperson.
