To combat increasing mail theft across the country, the service announced earlier this year they would begin installing 12,000 high-security blue collection boxes in high-risk areas nationwide.
The new blue collection boxes make it harder for criminals to access the contents, said a press release from the Postal Inspection Service.
Chief Postal Inspector Gary Barksdale said they are doubling down on their efforts to protect Postal employees and the security of the mail.
The USPS also recently provided an update on their Project Safe Delivery campaign to crack down on postal crimes, including attacks against postal employees.
The USPS initiative is set up to combat the recent rise in threats and attacks on letter carriers and mail theft incidents by protecting Postal employees and the security of the nation’s mail and packages.
