Random gunfire in the direction of a U.S. Postal Service truck struck a passing pickup in East St. Louis Wednesday morning, police say.
East St. Louis Assistant Police Chief Ranodore Foggs said officers and members of the Illinois State Police crime unit are processing the scene near the 2600 block of Missouri Avenue for clues as to who may have opened fire and why.
Foggs said an unknown male was on foot and fired multiple shots at the intersection of Missouri Avenue and Gordon Bush Avenue, near where a postal workers was delivering mail. “A passing pickup truck was struck at least once by gunfire,” Foggs said.
A postal truck does not appear to have been struck, Foggs said. Neither the driver of the pickup or the postal carrier were injured.
