Gordon Post Office slated to close- Residents launch petition

The post office is Gordon, WI is closing next month over a lease issue. A PO has been in town since 1860. The nearest PO is in Solon Springs, 8 miles away and open just 6 hours a day.

Oct. 17—GORDON — The post office in the town of Gordon is closing Nov. 9 due to the loss of the current building lease, according to United States Postal Services communications officer Desai Abdul-Razzaaq.

Beginning Nov. 10, Gordon Post Office customers will be able to pick up their mail, post office box mail and parcels at the main Solon Springs Post Office, 9226 E. Main St. The Solon Springs office, roughly 10 miles away from Gordon, is open Monday through Friday from 8:30-11 a.m. and 12:30-4 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

“Currently, there is no information on a reopening date for the Gordon Post Office,” Abdul-Razzaaq said in a news release.

A sign posted on the Gordon Post Office door also lists Nov. 9 as the last day of business.

“This closure is due to circumstances out of our control,” according to the sign.

A town of Gordon resident, Pam Boettcher, has launched a petition to Keep Gordon’s Post office in Gordon on change.org. As of Monday, Oct. 17, it had 430 signatures.

The town has had a post office for more than 162 years. Local historian Brian Finstad said the Gordon Post Office was established on Sept. 12, 1860. It began in Antoine Gordon’s Trading post, then moved to the McLaggan General Store and the Lawler-Knight General Store before settling into the current location at 9725 E. County Road Y.
