| NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – LEON TINSON, age 48, of New Orleans, Louisiana, was indicted on September 15, 2022 for Theft of Mail by a Postal Service Employee in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1709.
According to the indictment, on or about April 14, 2022, TINSON stole, abstracted, and removed the contents of a letter entrusted to him and which came into his possession intended to be conveyed by mail, while performing his assigned duties as an employee of the United States Postal Service. If convicted, TINSON faces a maximum penalty of up to five (5) years imprisonment, followed by up to three (3) years of supervised release, up to a $250,000 fine, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee. U.S. Attorney Evans reiterated that the indictment is merely a charging document and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. This case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service, Office of the Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Berman is in charge of the prosecution. |
