The Berlin Police Department responded to an aggravated assault at the U.S. Post Office located within the Berlin Mall on Saturday, March 15.

The post office is a branch of the Montpelier Post Office. It opened last year, after the July, 2023 flood made the State Street, Montpelier federal building unusable.

According to police, an altercation occurred between two employees, during which Alonza Wood, 49, of Plainfield, allegedly used pepper spray against her supervisor following a verbal dispute.

Detective Corporal Daniel Withrow and Officer Marshall Collier conducted the investigation. No other agencies were involved in the response.

Wood was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court – Washington Criminal Division on March 17.
