Postal Service employees made contributions large and small to the communities they serve throughout 2023.

When wildfires destroyed much of Lahaina, HI, during the summer, the news was particularly poignant for employees at the Chico, CA, Post Office who experienced a similar disaster in 2018.

The Chico employees, along with colleagues from other locations, collected uniforms, water, satchels, shoes and other items to send to the Lahaina Post Office in the days following the wildfires.

Meanwhile, after a twister hit the historic Mayfield, KY, Post Office, employees and volunteers discovered the facility’s U.S. flag survived — and so they preserved it in a wooden case, turning it into a symbol of the community’s resilience.

Elsewhere, employees in Sacramento, CA, staffed a special Post Office at the Cal Expo, including a letter-writing station and mailing materials for children, while employees in Superior, WI, showcased postal vehicles at a school carnival.

And in Simsbury, CT, Letter Carrier Mike Maliszewski arranged for a parade of vehicles — including an LLV — at the mail-themed birthday party of a little boy who is a big fan of USPS.
