WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Wichita Police Department is investigating an assault on a USPS postal carrier.
The incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. on Sept. 21 in the 800 block of S. Millwood Street.
Paul Shade, a Postal Inspector and public information officer with USPS said that his office received a report about a mail carrier being chased by two large dogs. The carrier used pepper spray to protect himself before running away to his vehicle.
Shade said two men pursued the postal from multiple blocks away and physically assaulted him, causing significant injuries to his face. The postal carrier refused EMS.
“One of the primary missions of the Postal inspection service is the protection and security of the postal employees and we take very seriously these incidents where our carriers are assaulted by members of the public,” said Shade in an email.
