Port St. Lucie Police conduct ‘suspicious package’ investigation at post office

PORT ST. LUCIE – The U.S. Post Office on Southeast Veterans Memorial Parkway has been evacuated Wednesday as police conduct a “suspicious package investigation” after what was described as a man in fatigues dropped off a package and left quickly, Port St. Lucie police stated.

Police were called to the post office, 2255 S.E. Veterans Memorial Parkway, at 12:06 p.m., said Sgt. Dominick Mesiti, police spokesperson.

“The post office made the determination to evacuate while we conduct this investigation,” Niemczyk said. “The bomb squad’s recovered a couple of objects from the box at this time.”

He said no explosive devices have been found.

As of 3 p.m., a host of police and St. Lucie County Sheriff’s officials remained at the scene.
