OSHA investigating death of Texas mailman working in extreme heat

The federal government is investigating the death of a Dallas mailman who perished after collapsing while walking his daily route amid 115 degree heat index values last week.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has since confirmed that there is an “open and ongoing” investigation into Gates’ death, according to the Dallas Morning News. “As temperatures continue to exceed dangerous levels in Texas and many parts of the country, employers need to act responsibly about their legal obligations to protect their workers from the well-known hazards of heat illness,” OSHA said in a statement to the Morning News.
