Nebraska driver in mail carrier van ejected from vehicle after crash involving semi

NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV) – One man was sent to the hospital after a crash in Northeast Nebraska where authorities say a mail carrier van was struck by a semi.

The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened on Tuesday, Nov. 26, on Highway 275, about two miles east of Norfolk, Nebraska.

According to the sheriff’s office, a mini-van and a semi pulling an unloaded flatbed were going eastbound on the highway. At around 2:35 p.m., authorities say the semi struck the mini-van, which was a vehicle used to deliver rural mail.

The impact caused the van to leave the roadway, roll, strike several trees and end up in a ditch.

The sheriff’s office says the 28-year-old Wisner, Nebraska man driving the van was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was life-flighted to an Omaha hospital after being stabilized by local medical personnel. The driver of the semi declined medical attention at the scene.

Authorities have not identified the drivers involved in the crash.

U.S. postal authorities did come to the crash scene and secured the undelivered mail inside and outside the van.

For two hours, the eastbound lanes of Highway 275 were closed as authorities responded to the scene.

This crash remains under investigation.
