CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) – The postmaster and the Chesterfield Fire Marshal are investigating, after a mail truck burst into flames.
It happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday on Chippenham Parkway, near the Hull Street exit.
Investigators say the driver heard a noise while driving southbound on Chippenham Parkway. When he pulled over, he noticed a fire under the truck. Chesterfield Fire tells 8News the fire spread quickly, and the vehicle was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived on scene. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, according to officials.
Fire crews say the mail truck is a “total loss,” and some pieces of mail were destroyed. The driver was not injured, officials say.
