LINCOLN — A 36-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to two years of probation for dumping, rather than delivering, the mail.
Matthew Doherty II, was employed for about 10 days in March as a mail carrier in Tekamah, about 44 miles north of Omaha.
But instead of delivering his parcels and letters, Doherty discarded at least 46 pieces of mail in a dumpster in Tekamah, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Nelson sentenced Doherty to two years of probation for desertion of the mail.
The United States Postal Service’s Office of the Inspector General investigated the case.
