Indy postal service delays result in deaths of shipped baby chickens

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Hoosiers are experiencing long delays in mail and package deliveries due to issues at the new U.S. Postal Service distribution on Brookville Road in Indianapolis.

The USPS website states that the postal carrier allows the shipment of 526 types of live animals. For Hoosiers like Scott Fred who rely on the USPS to receive these live animals, the delays have caused not only a headache but the death of the animals sent through the carrier.

Fred ordered live chicks on Jan. 28, 2025, through Townline Hatchery in Zeeland, Michigan.

“I placed my order and they shipped them on the last Tuesday in January, and they should have arrived that Thursday,” said Fred. “But unfortunately, they did not; they arrived on Friday.”

That Friday morning, the post office called Fred to inform him that all of the chicks were dead.
