What happened: A congressional staffer attacked this week was able to escape because of a postal worker, Rep. Gerry Connolly said at a House Oversight subcommittee hearing on the postal service.
“One of the heroes in this story was actually the postman,” Connolly (D-Va.), the staff member’s boss, said at the hearing Wednesday. “He came to the office while the attack was going on, and it startled the assailant. And that allowed the woman who was being beaten on the head to escape.”
Xuan Kha Tran Pham of Fairfax, Va., has been accused of using a baseball bat to injure two staff members in Connolly’s Virginia district office on Monday, police said. He reportedly asked for Connolly by name.
