Former employee speaks about post office issues

WLBT spoke with a former mail handler at the post office. Although he has not worked there since August 2024, he says that even then, things were questionable.

As of Monday, people were still raising concerns about their delayed mail, and we told you that Congressman Bennie Thompson has been made aware of the situation.

Cardarius Page, a former mail handler, says the mail was even getting behind schedule when he worked there.

We also told you that last week, a spokesperson for the United Postal Service told WLBT that there are no issues and that they are all caught up on their mail volume.

Those who reached out to WLBT allege that the problems might be due to a shortage of workers.

Page says that when it boils down to it, management doesn’t have its priorities in order.

“They would kind of like delay the mail like they wouldn’t get everything out when it’s supposed to go out,” said Page. “They would try to like manipulate the numbers and stuff and try to try to make it seem like they’re getting the mail out but really there’s a bunch of mail left in the building.”

We contacted the Postal Service again about the mailing issues at the Downtown Jackson location.

They responded with a statement saying in part: “The Jackson, MS processing center, like all mail processing facilities, is a 24-hour operation and constantly receives, processes, and moves mail as quickly as possible. The facility is adequately staffed and is working hard to ensure all items are processed and dispatched timely.”
