A former postal worker has admitted to stealing credit cards and stimulus checks from residents along his route, U.S. Attorney Vikas Khanna said.
Parrish Brookins, 30, of East Orange, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Claire C. Cecchi to one count of mail theft by a U.S. Postal Service officer or employee, officials said.
Between January and September of 2021, Brookins worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service on a route that included the Essex County towns of Montclair and Verona, according to court documents. During that time, multiple credit cards belonging to residents along the route were stolen, activated and used to make purchases, authorities said.
