Driving record of indicted Contracted Postal Service worker should have made him ineligible for job

But WESH 2 Investigates checked his driving record and it certainly is not “clean.” Records show nearly two dozen violations in the last years, including several counts of careless driving and running stop lights and signs, invalid registration, and no proof of insurance.

The contractor also states that new hires “must be able to pass a federal background check.”

We emailed the Postal Service to find out if a background check was done on McCoy and if private contractors, called Highway Contract Routes, are held to the same hiring standards as postal employees.

Tiffany Rowland of Postal Service communications didn’t address our question but told WESH 2 Investigates through email:

“Although individuals who provide service on such contracted routes are not directly employed by the Postal Service, anyone entrusted with handling the mail is expected to maintain the highest standards of ethical behavior.”

The local case of discarded mail came just two months after a woman captured video of a Tennessee Postal Service employee dumping bins full of mail into a dumpster. Kenyatta Denton recalled, “Right is right, and wrong is wrong. So he knew by you looking around, trying to see if others were looking, you knew it was wrong.”
