EMMAUS, Pa. – This bitter cold is no match for mail carriers on the go this winter.
“It was funny. I was actually talking to a carrier this morning in Philadelphia, and he said, ‘hey, it’s just like when I go to an Eagles game,'” said Paul Smith, spokesman for USPS.
Just like those fans, postal workers don’t let extreme weather stop them.
“That’s why they’re always out there in storms, like right after hurricanes or the wildfires,” Smith explained. “You know they want to deliver.”
Smith said there have been some advancements since he was on the road.
“Nowadays, you’ve got the hand warmers that the feet warmers, which are a lot better. I can recall delivering in zero, and, you know, it basically the first thing you feel is kind of like your fingertips or your toes,” said Smith.
Smith said when the forecast is questionable, mail carriers are provided with safety information.
