Alabama postal employee charged with stealing Amazon returns

A Rural Carrier for the United States Postal Service in Theodore has been charged in Federal Court with stealing items from the mail.

Brandon Hoyt was charged today with allegedly stealing items from boxes that were being returned to Amazon by customers, according to court documents.

According to the filing, the acting post-mistress at the Theodore Post Office reported that “some unknown employee(s) had opened and emptied some Amazon boxes that were in a b in waiting for Amazon drivers to retrieve them.

Postal officials reviewed surveillance footage and determined that Hoyt had cut several boxes open and taken items from inside the boxes, according to court documents.

In the filing, federal investigators say Hoyt confessed and admitted to selling a pair of Apple iPods on Facebook for $180.

If convicted, Hoyt could face up to 5 years in prison.
