Woman mail carrier attacked, suspect arrested in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Brenton Shaw, 26, for allegedly attacking a woman mail carrier.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Church Street for reports that a woman attempted to mace Shaw on August 16, around 3 p.m.

The mail carrier told authorities that the situation started when she saw the suspect walking toward her quickly while she emptied a collection box.

Shaw proceeded to hit the woman with a water bottle, according to court records.

When the mail carrier retreated to her mail truck, the suspect started pulling at the door handle and yelling at the victim to get out of the vehicle.

Shaw is charged with aggravated battery in a public place, aggravated battery to a government employee and disorderly conduct.
