USPS ends contracts with postal locations in Greater Cincinnati

Tim Cable owns four Ace Hardware stores in the Cincinnati area. But at the end of May, he received notice from the U.S. Postal Service that it would be ending its contract for the postal unit inside his store in Mariemont.

The postal unit at 7201 Wooster Pike is set to close on Sept. 30 and is one of several postal units shutting down across Greater Cincinnati. The postal service’s decision has left Cable confused, saying his Mariemont unit gets more business than some of his other stores’ postal units − 75 customers a day approximately and often gets much busier during holidays and tax season.

“It doesn’t make sense,” he said.

Cable said he was told in an email from a U.S. Postal Service contracting officer that the closure is not performance-based and that other post offices in the area can fully serve this community.
