JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2025) — Fire crews responded to the Johnstown Post Office Sunday afternoon after reports of smoke near the building. The call came in around 4:00 p.m. for a possible structure fire at 14 North Williams Street.

Upon arrival, firefighters determined the source of the smoke was a fully involved U.S. Postal Service delivery van parked east of the lot, away from the main building. Flames spread through the front of the vehicle and damaged packages inside before crews brought the fire under control.

The Johnstown Fire Department was assisted by Gloversville Fire Department, Lake Valley EMS and the Johnstown Police Department. National Grid was also called in after overhead utility lines above the vehicle began to burn.

No injuries were reported, and the post office building itself was not damaged.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
