HARVEST, Ala — The U.S. Postal Service responded Thursday to a FOX54 report of exposed and undelivered packages at its Harvest facility, providing an explanation while apologizing to local residents experiencing delivery delays and other issues.
The response follows a Wednesday report that showed dozens of pallets teeming with undelivered parcels from Amazon, eBay, and traditional shipments piled alongside the exterior of the post office at 9157 Wall Triana Highway.
During two visits to the facility this week, news crews observed shipments that were exposed to rain and summer heat, with no apparent protection from possible theft.
Postal workers and residents expressed growing frustration over the backlog, with one postal employee stating, “Tell Amazon to deliver their own packages.”
In a statement following an inquiry by FOX54, postal officials on Thursday acknowledged the overflow but characterized it as a temporary logistical adjustment.
“Mail and package volume fluctuates, including recently at the Harvest office,” the statement read, adding that the influx led the agency to “temporarily expand operations to exterior portions of the facility.”
Despite visual evidence of packages sitting in the rain earlier in the week, the Postal Service maintained that it is actively protecting the mail. The agency claimed that all items are secured, nothing is left unattended, and steps are being taken to ensure shipments are not damaged or exposed to the elements.
