The United States Postal Service chief told individuals close to him that he wants to resign from his post, according to a report from Reuters on Wednesday. “The message was, this isn’t what he signed up for, and he didn’t come on board to get beat up like this,” one source said.
This report comes as President Trump has been attempting to use the supposedly independent mail service to do his bidding in his last-minute midterm election interference, commanding it to only deliver ballots if they had a unique barcode and if states handed over voter lists to the agency. The Supreme Court struck that dream down on Monday, just two days before reports of Steiner’s discontent.
USPS has denied the report, saying it has “absolutely zero validity.”
I, and apparently Congress and the American public, are astounded at the arrogance of this guy. Sorry bud, but if you don’t do your job then Congress isn’t going to help. You’ve got your hand out for money and their phones are ringing off the hook with complaints when you and Doug Tulino sit on your butts and cash your bonus checks. Steiner is pretty much the only USPS executive held accountable for anything and he doesn’t like it. He’s not demonstrated any semblance of competence and lies at the drop of a hat. I don’t foresee anyone begging him to stay.

He was used to Waste Management, where he was able to do what he wanted with no consequences. The company has low trust by customers. He was ill-suited for the PMG job. However, that doesn’t appear to stop the BOG from continuing to appoint, with the president’s approval, PMGs who are not qualified for the job.
The organization needs to stop using Baby Boomers to fill the PMG role and move to younger- to mid-Gen Xers.
Steiner’s relocation agreement claw-back requires a two-year service commitment from his official start date. Let’s see if he can make it until July 2027.
He may indeed make it, but at what cost to the country and the USPS. I’m not sure the rest of us are going to make it, though.
Please if there’s a God in heaven, and there is, let this be true. He’s been “beat up” because he’s an incompetent and untruthful failure. It’s clear he thought he had a cushy government job that paid well and that he could just cruise and cash his big checks. He has actually received bonuses for failure, as Hawley so aptly pointed out. He had no clue what he was getting into, and rather than using whatever expertise he used at WM, he lazily did pretty much nothing to tackle the problems right in from of him and the country has suffered immensely, as has the reputation of the USPS. He made a huge mistake listening to Doug Tulino, and now suffers the consequences while Tulino remains behind the curtain. Please go.
Didn’t the president “interview” Steiner prior to his “appointment”? Did he think it was going to be easy to carry out the president’s agenda?
